FJA™ selected for Townson Road Upgrade Works
Overview of Townson Road Upgrade
FJA™, in collaboration with Ward Civil and Dionna and TfNSW, contributed to the Townson Road Upgrade works. To support the forecast growth in the North West Growth Area (NWGA), The NSW Government proposed a road network. The proposal runs from the intersection of Richmond Road and Townson Road, Marsden Park to the roundabout intersection of Burdekin Road and Walker Street, Schofields.
The purposes of the upgrade are to improve road capacity and safety, support residential growth and encourage active transport along the corridor. Additionally, it will improve connectivity between Richmond Road and Windsor Road.
Role & Contribution
FJA™ undertook Utilities Design and Management for the project. FJA™ worked with the contractor to innovate the designs provided by the client and increase the constructability of the project. Besides, we worked during the site works to make amendments to designs as required. Accordingly, this allowed works to continue and when issues arose, we attended shutdowns to solve the problem as they happened.
To effectively manage the project, FJA™ led a team of over 30 utility specialists to deliver water, sewer and electrical designs and co-ordination of telecommunications and designs. Particularly, we introduced a range of project controls to ensure timely project delivery, providing the client with weekly performance and progress reporting, facilitating construction planning and resourcing.
The three-dimensional utility services model developed for the project is one of the most complex 12D models ever produced in Australia. Therefore, we worked with the client to produce systems for data acquisition and data management to provide continuous updates to the Australian subsurface utility standards.
Continuing from the design phase, FJA™ worked closely with Acciona on the construction phase services portion of the contract. We responded quickly to RFI’s, designing innovative solutions to problems encountered onsite. Additionally, we provided resources to work around the clock to ensure the success of essential workers undertaken during the shut down of utilities.
