Macquarie Bus Interchange

FJA contributed to Macquarie Bus Interchange Works

FJA™ was selected by Transport for NSW, along collaboration with GHD, to deliver Macquarie Bus Interchange project. The NSW Government plans to upgrade the Macquarie Park bus route to improve public transport system. In particular, the state government’s plans for a $100 million transport interchange at Macquarie Park have been labelled as little more than a fancy bus stop. Firstly, the project will include widening footpaths by three meters on both sides of the interchange on Herring Road. Secondly, a new roundabout will be developed at the intersection of Herring and Innovation roads, and an access ramp from Herring Road to the Macquarie Center shopping precinct.

This work will still deliver a significant boost to public space along both sides of Herring Road. This work in turn allows for cafes, restaurants and “more lively streets”, while “future-proofing” an important transport hub for decades. The project aims to:

  • increase the capacity of the bus interchange
  • improve bus customers’ connection to the Macquarie University Metro Station
  • optimize bus operations, which will reduce travel times and delays

FJA™ undertook Detailed Design and Modelling of Utilities for the project. We also managed the site investigation and detailed design of Ausgrid electrical packages, Sydney Water, water and sewer packages and coordinated all non-contestable designs.

Construction of the interchange are expected to start late this year and be completed by the end of 2024.
